Potty Strike and Creepy Elves

So much for potty training. Finn had been using the potty about 5 times a day for the last 2 months. He got sick recently and we didn't bother putting him on the potty during that time. Now the potty window has closed. I think he finally realized it takes more time to go potty than it does to just get his diaper changed. Here's hoping he'll be trained by the time he turns 10.

Some new things:
Finn is now deathly afraid of the doctor. He screamed through his entire 18 month visit. A few weeks later my mom took him to the dry cleaners and he freaked out. Seeing a counter with a woman standing behind it gave him flashbacks of the Dr. office, I guess.

He's continuing to speak in more sentences. Last night for the first time he said "Mommy, read the book. That one" and now everything we give him to eat is "Look! Very very hot." Yet he still continues to call milk "puck", even though he can say milk.

He can also sing his ABC's..but not all at once. He'll start and you have to finish, or you start, and he'll finish.

He's also getting a little creepy. He walked in on his babysitter in the bathroom and said "I watch". He proceeded to stare at her. When she asked if he was being a creep he answered "uh,huh."

Finn hates Santa. We took him on a santa train. 5 minutes in he was "all done". His picture pretty much sums up his thoughts on Santa.

Snitches Get Stitches

Finn's talkative nature has finally caught up with him (or really, us). I came home from work today to my mom (CC) laughing saying "Finn can't keep a secret".

Un-official transcript of their conversation:

F: "Look! Truck!"
CC: "What does the truck bring to your house?"
F: "Packages."
CC: "For Mommy?"
F: "No. CC."
CC: "What kind of packages?"
F: "Shoes!"

And like that, CC's surprise gift of Uggs- ruined. So already, at 18 months Finn is a snitch.

Here's a picture of Finn with the expert interrogator CC in disguise.

Weenin' it up (a month late)

Considering Finn was asleep during Halloween last year, this one was way more fun. He still keeps talking about "Trick or Treat" and "Mommy, Daddy, monkey". We had a busy day that involved a super-fun party at Finn's buddy Oly's house, then dinner and trick or treating with all of his neighborhood peeps.

Treehouses. On the ground, but made of trees.

Paying the troll toll

Pointing and smiling, Finn walks up to this nightmare inducing thing saying "Mommy!"- Not as in, "Look Mommy!", but "Look! It is Mommy!" What a jerk.

Tying one on

Did I mention Finn has become obsessed with Brian's ties?

...checking himself out in the mirror with his big boy pants.

Reading: Business vs. Casual

Apparently Finn needs to be professionally dressed to take his reading seriously and read the book right side up.

Fire! Truck!

Finn had a blast at the Media Fire Station. The Firefighter he met (in the 2nd picture) was awesome; Finn was beside himself with excitement.

Sharing?!

Here's Finn with his buddy Campbell. She took him to his first pro soccer match, so he returned the favor by giving her a Cheerio.

He looks too much like a big boy!

Delicious Jellyfish

We got together with a bunch of Brian's JMU friends at the beach last month. Finn had a blast and insisted on running directly into the waves and trying to eat jellyfish.

camera hog

Finn had a photo shoot yesterday with a Media photographer, Smita Mallya- despite his mosquito bitten eye. She did a great job. We were at the Swarthmore College gardens for an hour and a half and Finn didn't even melt down once! We're still trying to decide which ones to buy.

Here they are:
Of course I can't figure out how to make this an active link (I tried the insert link button and it won't work)

Ah, just cut and paste.

If you poop on your pants in the woods and your bad parents didn't bring another pair for you- did you really poop your pants?

Hildacy Nature Preserve. Ridley Creek is for suckers. This place is way better.

Nature Boy. Wooo!

Road Rage

1st real haircut at 1 year

Get a haircut, hippie!

We had to come back a month later for another haircut.

1st Birthday!

Catching up

Here are some old pictures of Finn. He's 14 months old now. I think I've aged 10 years in the past 1.

Today Finn is 11 months. He's still up to his usual hijinks- walking everywhere and learning to say new words and eating anything that isn't nailed down. He's still blabbering away with those old-news words "hot", "up", "mama", and "dada", but today he added a new one "ball". Kelly, his babysitter also said he was saying "apple" a lot this week too.

We think he's allergic to dogs and possibly spring. Basically our child is allergic to fun. So what better way to celebrate that then take him out and let him touch dogs and flowers almost every day this week. Yesterday he got to watch us play some frisbee and had a blast. It was his first trip to Edgely since the summer, so he was able to appreciate it a lot more. I appreciated it a lot more because he could sit and eat lunch while I got some exercise.

He got to pet some really nice, big dogs today at Rose Tree Park. It got a little weird when he started petting their owner's leg. Finn smoothed over that awkwardness by eating a piece of a stick.
